Eastern Newts and Red Efts

We went for a walk in our woods the other day and the pond had thousands of olive green Eastern Newts in it. These olive green salamanders with orange spots are the adult version of the orange salamanders I posted earlier this summer. As juveniles they are orange with slightly bumpy skin but as adults the Eastern Newt turns olive green with orange spots. The juveniles, called Red Efts, live on land for up to eight years before turning green and returning to the water to breed and lay their eggs.

A few more pics from our walk
