Leaf Peeping Trip in My Cast

I was really down in the dumps today so Don and I took a ride and did some leaf peeping. Then he built a small ramp so that I could go out to the deck and back yard. I tried my luck at walking on the grass with the crutches and Don said I turned ghostly white and nearly fainted before I made it to the chair. Gotta get my blood back up to my brain after being laid up so long.

It was wonderful to get out into the sun and to feel the breeze. Smelling the spicy fall scents and the rustling of the leaves was sublime!

Sketchbook Project Page Spread In Memory of My Dad

This is a special Sketchbook Project page spread I did in honor of my Dad's Memory. I posted the paragraphs below on my Facebook page in an effort to involve people in a prayer project for the month of October.

 My Dad was born on October 4, 1935. He died on October 22, 1972. He was only 37 years old. My Dad died from a disease that at the time was called Manic Depression. After years of battling his disease and trying numerous medications but finding no relief from the constant pain and suffering he committed suicide. I was 9 my sister was 12 and my brother was 6, and we have never recovered from losing him. He has been gone 38 years and I miss him every day of my life.

I would like to believe with all my heart that someone prayed for him that day, that someone looked into his eyes, saw his sorrow and asked God to be with him on that terrible day. I would like to believe that those prayers brought forth an army of angles sent in his final moments to bring him home to God. I need to believe that Jesus was there waiting for him with his arms spread ready to embrace and heal his wounds.
 I would like you to help me honor the memory of my Dad, Lawrence Philip Eaton, during October. This month when you are at work, or running errands, or doing what ever tasks you need to accomplish look at everyone around you. Really look deeply at the people that cross your path and allow yourself to see them as someone's Mother, Father Son, Daughter, Sister or Brother.  When you see someone that looks burdened or sad pray for them right there on the spot. Send out a heart felt plea to God to reach down and touch that persons life, to lift their burdens and sorrows and to fill their heart with an abundance of love, joy and blessings. Do this for every person that you come across that you believe needs to feel loved today. Send them your love and prayers and you will have taken the first step towards healing them and perhaps the world.

22 Days in this Chair, Self Portrait Featured on Art House Co-ops Website

Today is October 5th and  I have been stuck sitting in this chair for 22 days now with a broken ankle and swelling issues. I spend my days reading, cuddling my dogs, watching TV via my Roku/Netflix connection and working on the Sketchbook Project for Art House Co-op in Brooklyn, NY. I have had only 2 showers in 22 days and can only be up for about 10 minuets before the swelling in my leg starts to get really painful and my toes turn lovely shades of red and purple. I have good days, like today :~), and bad days like yesterday when I cried a lot :~(

The sketchbook project has been a real life saver for me as it gives me the ability to keep my creative juices flowing even while mobile It has been a great emotional outlet and I have really enjoyed meeting all the other artists involved on the Art House Co-op website's Sketchbook project page. I love reading the comments and seeing all the great artwork.

There are almost 20,000 sketchbooks out there so today when I saw that my gouache self portrait was one of the artworks featured on the front page of the Art House Co-op's website I was very honored and it really cheered me up.Here is a link to the Art House Co-op website: Art House Co-op Sketchbook Project

Self Portrait Sketch for the Sketchbook Project

 

Yesterday I did a self portrait sketch to add to my Sketchbook Project moleskin, then today I painted it with gouache. Today I think I may try to do a more primitive self portrait.The manager from Frog Hollow Gallery in Burlington is coming by this afternoon to pick up some silk paintings and a friend is visiting this morning so not sure how much time I will be able to dedicate to the sketchbook today. Time will tell.
